With Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) already storming into the final after dismantling Gujarat Titans in Dharamsala, the Titans are left licking their wounds.
The spotlight now shifts to the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, where Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) face Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Wednesday’s Eliminator, a high‑stakes clash that will decide who battles Titans in IPL 2026 Qualifier 2 and ultimately challenges RCB for the crown.

SRH cruised into the playoffs with games to spare, while RR had to grind past Mumbai Indians in their final league fixture to sneak in. As the clock ticks towards showtime, here are the decisive factors that could shape the outcome.
SRH's grip over RR
The rivalry once stood delicately balanced, with RR leading 9‑8 in 17 encounters until April 2023. Since then, SRH have turned the tide emphatically, winning all six subsequent meetings. The head‑to‑head now reads 14‑9 in SRH’s favour, making them RR’s bogey team.
This will be their third clash of the season, with SRH already victorious in Hyderabad and Jaipur. Yet RR can draw confidence from their record at Mullanpur, three wins in three games, while SRH have split their two outings at the venue.
Fitness Concerns in RR Camp
RR’s preparations are clouded by injury worries.
- Riyan Parag, their stand‑in skipper, is battling a hamstring issue. He admitted after the MI win that he wasn’t supposed to play further, but he will push his limits to feature.
- Ravindra Jadeja is also nursing an unspecified injury. Batting as low as No. 9 and bowling just two overs against MI, his reduced role raises questions about his fitness.
Both are expected to play, but not at full tilt, a potential game‑changer in a knockout clash.
RR’s game changers
- Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been a revelation, leading RR’s run charts with 583 runs at a strike rate of 232.27 and an average of 41.64. His fearless approach has already yielded a century against SRH this season. Another big knock can put RR in the driver's seat.
- Donovan Ferreira, the South African finisher, replaced Shimron Hetmyer in RR's playing XI and injected late‑overs firepower with a strike rate of 170.06. If RR’s top order sets the platform, Ferreira can tilt the contest.
- Jofra Archer remains RR’s trump card with the ball. Despite the outside noise surrounding his absence from England's squad for the opening Test against New Zealand, Archer has held his nerve and appears laser-focused to get the job done for RR. He was the difference in punching a playoff ticket when RR faced MI.
SRH’s batting arsenal
SRH boast arguably the deepest batting unit in the league:
- Heinrich Klaasen (606 runs), Ishan Kishan (569), and Abhishek Sharma (563) are all in peak form.
- Travis Head (393) has been inconsistent but remains a proven match‑winner.
- Lower down the order, Nitish Kumar Reddy (264 runs, SR 169.23), Salil Arora, and Smaran Ravichandran add further depth needed in case of a batting collapse.
This depth ensures SRH can absorb early setbacks and still post daunting totals.
SRH’s subtle speed traps
Sakib Hussain and Harshal Patel have mastered the art of deception with disguised slower balls and short bumpers. Their exhibition against RCB in Hyderabad, defending a mammoth 255, highlighted their skill in taking pace off.
At Mullanpur, where clearing square boundaries isn’t easy, RR’s batters, who thrive on pace, may find themselves frustrated if Sakib and Harshal execute their variations to perfection.
SRH enter the Eliminator with momentum, depth, and a psychological edge over RR. Yet RR’s unbeaten record at Mullanpur, coupled with the brilliance of Sooryavanshi, Ferreira, and Archer, keeps the contest wide open.
Fitness clouds over Parag and Jadeja could tilt the scales, but in knockout cricket, one inspired performance can rewrite the script.
