Abishek Porel is a 23-year-old wicketkeeper batter from Bengal who plays for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He first registered for the IPL auction ahead of the 2023 season at a base price of INR 20 lakhs but found no buyer and went unsold. His fate took a pleasant U-Turn after Delhi Capitals signed him as a replacement for Rishabh Pant.

Porel had aggregated 695 runs at an average of 30.21 in 16 first-class, three List A and as many T20 matches for Bengal. Porel had an underwhelming season. In four games, he managed just 33 runs, averaging 8.25 at a strike rate of 106.45, including one four, two sixes and four catches.

But Capitals liked what they saw of him in the matches and during their training sessions and retained him on promise. IPL 2024 was the most memorable one for the southpaw. In 12 innings of 14 matches, Porel amassed 327 runs, averaging 32.70 at a strike rate of 159.51. His personal best: 65 off just 36 balls came against Rajasthan Royals on May 7 in Delhi at a strike rate of 180.5, including seven fours and three sixes.

He racked up another fifty in the season, which came against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 14. He scored 58 off just 33 deliveries at a strike rate of 175.7, laced with five fours and four sixes.

Impressed with his performance, Delhi Capitals offered him a renewed contract as his IPL earnings went from INR 20 lakhs to INR 4 crore, a spike of 1900% ahead of the 2025 season.

In 13 games of the 2025 season, Porel amassed 301 runs, averaging 25.08 at a strike rate of 146.82. He managed a solitary half-century, a 36-ball 51, which came against Lucknow Super Giants on April 22 in Lucknow, while batting at a strike rate of 141.6, including five fours and a six.

He had a disappointing IPL 2026, accumulating just 108 runs in four games, averaging just 27.00 at a strike rate of 122.72. His 31-ball 51 against Rajasthan Royals on May 17 was the only memorable innings he could produce in the entire season and largely saw him warming the bench.
