Mumbai Indians captain and all-rounder Hardik Pandya is one of the most precious commodities in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He belongs to an exceedingly rare breed of cricketers in India: a seam-bowling all-rounder who adds incomparable depth and flexibility to any team he is part of.
Hardik possesses the ability to bat in the middle-order as well as a finisher, while he is a smooth operator with the ball across all phases of the game – be it with the new ball in the powerplay or as a change-up in middle-overs or as a defence mechanism at the death. Add to that his reliable fielding and leadership ability, and what takes shape is Hardik Pandya.

Hardik spent his first seven years with the Mumbai Indians after being scouted before IPL 2015. He honed his craft in Mumbai, developing into a genuine, match-winning all-rounder who played a critical role in the Mumbai Indians' title triumphs in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. He was released after IPL 2021, shifting his base to the new franchise Gujarat Titans (GT), ahead of IPL 2022 and was named their captain despite having no prior leadership record.
Hardik took the challenge admirably and led the team to the IPL title in its maiden season and his first attempt as captain. He was also his team’s leading run-getter in the season with 487 runs to his name. In 2023, he led Titans to one shot away from glory as they ended runners-up to Chennai Super Kings after going down in a closely fought summit clash.
With his captaincy credentials cast in stone, Hardik returned to Mumbai ahead of IPL 2024, assuming the leadership by replacing long-standing skipper Rohit Sharma.
Hardik enters IPL 2026 as a two-time T20 World Cup champion, with Suryakumar Yadav-led India securing the 2026 title at home after winning the 2024 iteration under Rohit Sharma in Barbados.
