Born on July 30, 1991, in Pretoria, Transvaal, Heinrich Klaasen has developed into one of the most sought-after talents in the franchise circuit. The wicket-keeper batter did his schooling at High School Menlopark and attended the University of Pretoria.
The right-hand bat made his first-class debut for Northerns in the 2012-13 season. He racked up runs at an average of 42.58 in the Provincial Three-day Cup. His first stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL) came in the middle of the 2018 season. He was signed as an injury replacement for Steven Smith by Rajasthan Royals for INR 50 lakhs.

In four games, Klaasen aggregated 57 runs in four matches at an average of 19.00 and a strike rate of 121.27. He was then signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the 2019 season, but only got three matches and scored nine runs at a strike rate of 90.00.
Klaasen then returned to the cash-rich league in 2023 after he was bought at the pre-season auction for INR 5.25 crore. It was 2023 when the fans in the IPL saw the calibre of the Protea. He accumulated 448 runs in 11 innings for Sunrisers Hyderabad at an average of almost 50 (49.77) and a strike rate of 177.07, including a hundred and two half-centuries. Klaasen smashed 32 fours and 25 sixes during the season.
Hyderabad knew they had found gold, and they decided to retain him for the coming season for INR 5.25 crore. He replicated his performance in the 2024 season, scoring 479 runs in 15 innings, averaging 39.91 and a strike rate of 171.07. His consistent run also helped Sunrisers reach the final and finish as runners-up.
His IPL earnings spiked by 338% and jumped to INR 23 crore in the 2025 season, and he was retained at the same price for the 2026 season by SRH.
