Jofra Archer earned his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) contract after being signed by Rajasthan Royals (RR) for the 2018 edition on the back of some terrific performances in the T20 Blast 2017 and Big Bash League 2017-18. Known for clocking over 145 kmph consistently, Archer had a brilliant first season, scalping 15 wickets from ten innings, playing a key role in Rajasthan’s qualification to the playoffs.

He further picked up 11 wickets in the following season in 2019 and went on to make his international debuts across all three formats the same year. He also bowled the famous super over in the ODI World Cup 2019 final against New Zealand, helping England win their maiden crown. After that, Archer’s stocks in world cricket saw an exponential rise, making him one of the most sought-after players across the globe.

He continued his rich form in the 2020 season, finishing with 20 wickets from 14 innings, which also earned him the honour of being crowned the Most Valuable Player of the Season. However, Archer’s golden period hit a roadblock as a finger surgery and a long-standing elbow injury ruled him out of IPL 2021.

Despite being all set to miss the 2022 edition due to an elbow injury, he was picked up by Mumbai Indians (MI) at the mega auction for INR 8 crore. The speedster finally made his debut for MI in 2023, but continued to struggle with his elbow injury, managing to play just five games in the season before being ruled out again.

In 2024, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) made Archer pull out of the tournament to manage his workload. He marked his long-awaited IPL return for the 2025 season, after being acquired by Rajasthan for INR 12.50 Crore during the mega auction.

The speedster didn’t have a memorable return to RR, scalping just 11 wickets from 12 matches. However, he’s made a remarkable comeback in 2026, being the third-highest wicket taker with 21 wickets from 14 innings till the end of the league stage.
