Manish Pandey is one of the very few players who were a part of the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 and are still around. The right-handed batter was a part of India's U19 World Cup-winning squad in 2008. He was a part of the U19 draft pick at the IPL 2008 auction and was picked by Mumbai Indians (MI) FOR INR 12.03 lakhs.
He could only manage three runs in two innings in the maiden IPL season and was traded by Mumbai to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for INR 14.60 lakhs ahead of the 2009 season. Pandey scored 168 runs for RCB in four innings, out of which 114 came in a single game when he became the first Indian to score a hundred in the lucrative tournament. He averaged 84.00 and batted at a strike rate of 142.37. Pandey couldn't sustain his form in the 2010 season and was subsequently released.

He found a new home at Pune Warriors India (PWI) when they bought him for INR 20 lakhs at the 2011 auction. The Nainital-born racked up 246, 143 and 136 runs in the three seasons he played for PWI.
His IPL earnings registered a jump of 750% when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) paid 1.70 crore at the 2014 auction to rope him in. He repaid their faith by aggregating 401 runs in 16 innings, averaging 30.84 and a strike rate of 117.94, including two fifties. Pandey made a vital contribution in KKR's successful campaign that season.
KKR released him after the 2017 season, and then came his biggest IPL paycheck when Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) acquired his services for INR 11 crore. He represented them till 2021 for the same price.
Pandey played for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their maiden IPL season in 2022 for INR 4.60 crore. After an underwhelming season where he could only accumulate 88 runs in six innings, LSG decided to let him go and free up some money. He was then picked by Delhi Capitals, but a change in jersey colour didn't change his fortunes as he scored just 160 in nine games and was released again.
The 2024 auction scripted a homecoming for Pandey after KKR splurged INR 50 lakhs and re-signed him. His paycheck has increased from INR 50 lakhs to INR 75 lakhs for the 2026 season.
