Mitchell Starc entered the cauldron of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2014 when Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) signed him up for INR 5 crore. Starc had a fairly impressive debut season as he bagged 14 wickets in as many games for RCB at an economy rate of 7.49.
He came back with a bang in 2015, claiming 20 wickets in 13 games at a praiseworthy economy rate of just 6.76, including a four-wicket haul. RCB retained Starc for the same price for IPL 2016, but he was ruled out pre-season as he was recovering from a foot fracture.

Starc and RCB parted ways ahead of IPL 2017 as the former decided to take some time off and revitalise before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy that year.
"At this point in time after a long summer and with a big tour of India still ahead I think it is in my best interests, both physically and mentally, for me to have a break, spend time with my family and take the opportunity to work on getting back to full fitness," said Starc in a statement.
He registered for the 2018 IPL auction, where Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) splurged INR 9.40 crore to acquire his services. However, Starc was ruled out pre-season with a tibial bone stress fracture in his right leg. KKR then picked Tom Curran as Starc's replacement for INR 1.62 crore from the Registered and Available Player Pool (RAPP) list.
Starc returned to the cash-rich league in 2024 and became the then most expensive auction pick when KKR signed him for INR 24.75 crore. The left-armer lived up to his billing as he delivered a Player of the Match (POTM) performance in the final and guided KKR to their third IPL title.
He was released subsequently and signed by Delhi Capitals (DC) at the 2025 auction for INR 11.75 crore. DC retained him for IPL 2026 for the same price.
