Before coming into the IPL fold, Rajat Patidar worked hard and produced results in the domestic circuit. The right-hand batter made his debut for Madhya Pradesh in the 2015-16 season and a breakout season was not far away. Patidar finished as the team's highest run-scorer in 2018-19 with 713 runs in eight matches including five fifties and a century.
The Indore-born continued to perform in domestic cricket before catching RCB's attention. The franchise acquired him for INR 20 lakh for the 2021 season, but the right-hander failed to impress as he could score only 71 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 114.51. Patidar was released thereafter, but an injury to Luvnith Sisodia opened the doors to the same franchise in 2022 for INR 20 lakh itself.

It was turning out to be a decent season which got way better in the Eliminator when the elegant right-hander smashed a match-winning 112* off 54 balls and finished the season with 333 runs. However, fate turned cruel ahead of the 2023 edition as an Achilles Heel injury kept Patidar out for the entire season.
The right-hander came back strong in IPL 2024 in terms of runs (395) and strike rate (177.13) and his performances compelled the RCB management to retain him for INR 11 crore ahead of the mega auction for IPL 2025. Moreover, the franchise announced the 32-year-old as their captain for IPL 2025 which turned out to be a masterstroke as RCB broke the jinx and won their first-ever IPL title. Needless to say, Patidar was retained as skipper for the 2026 edition.
