The Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant began his IPL journey in 2016 soon after the Under-19 World Cup in which the Uttarakhand boy played a scintillating knock of 111(96) to take the team into the semi-final. Notably, Pant was acquired by Delhi Capitals for INR 1.9 crore on the same day he played that innings.
The southpaw's numbers in the first season were not considerable, however, he lit up the league in the next two coming into his own. After scoring 366 runs in 14 innings in 2017 which included two fifties and 24 sixes, DC retained the wicketkeeper-batter who saw his salary rise to INR 8 crore. The 2018 edition turned out to be Pant's best ever as the then youngster amassed 684 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 173.60.

Pant continued to deliver season after season not scoring less than 300 runs in any for DC. Notably, the left-hander was made interim captain in 2021 after Shreyas Iyer was injured. Even when the right-hander came back, the team management continued with Pant as the leader and the southpaw helmed the role till his last season for DC in 2024 with an increased salary of INR 16 crore. However, it should be noted that Pant missed the 2023 season due to a horrific car accident that he suffered in December 2022. But, credit to his mental strength the audacious batter came back with a bang in 2024 scoring 446 runs in 13 innings.
Ahead of IPL 2025, Pant went into the mega auction pool where a fierce bidding war skyrocketed his price to INR 27 crore. The Lucknow Super Giants were determined to buy the batter and made him the most expensive player of all time till date. But, the first season with the new franchise did not turn out to be a good one both as a player and leader. The team finished seventh while Pant had his second-worst season, scoring 269 runs only in 13 innings of which 118 came in their last match of the season.
