Riyan Parag was part of India's Under-19 World Cup 2018 winning squad before being picked up by Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 2019 edition for INR 20 lakh. The Assam batter had a very good first season, scoring 160 runs in five innings and became the youngest half centurion of the IPL at the time achieving the feat at 17 years and 175 days against Delhi Capitals.
Parag continued to earn the same amount for the next two seasons and, unfortunately, his performances dipped, too. The role of a finisher does not give a batter much time to get a few sighters in and the youngster struggled to cope up with the demands. RR released him ahead of the 2022 edition but acquired him again for a massively higher sum of INR 3.8 crore, indicating faith in the batter's future prospects. The right-hander, however, still could not reach his potential that year and scored 183 runs in 14 innings in the franchise's second-best season ever.

Parag's performance dwindled further in 2023 as the finisher could only muster 78 runs in seven innings with a noticeable reduction in the strike rate too. But, the batter's promotion to number four in the batting order turned around his fortunes in 2024. Parag finished with 573 runs in 14 innings and became the first player to score more than 550 runs in a season while batting at two-down.
Considering his 2024 run-fest, RR decided to retain him for INR 14 crore ahead of the mega auction for IPL 2025. The right-hand batter could not replicate the same performance as last year's as the added responsibility of captaincy perhaps affected his batting. In eight matches in 2025, Parag was able to lead the team to only two wins. This season, with Samson traded to CSK, RR have appointed Parag as full-time captain and it remains to be seen how Parag the batter fares.
