The Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been around in the IPL for more than a decade now and the right-hand elegant batter has enhanced his reputation year over year. Shreyas was first acquired by the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) for INR 2.6 crore ahead of the IPL 2015 auction. The price tag made Shreyas the most expensive uncapped player at the time and the youngster delivered with 439 runs in 14 innings and won the IPL Emerging Player of the Year award the same year.
Apart from IPL 2016, Shreyas scored heaps of runs in almost all the following seasons that he played for DC. The right-hander was retained for INR 7 crore ahead of the 2018 mega auction and the following season, Shreyas led DC to the playoffs for the first time in six years. Moreover, he also captained the side to their maiden final in 2020 which they lost to Mumbai Indians.

A shoulder injury kept the Mumbai-born out of IPL 2021 partially as Rishabh Pant was appointed interim captain. The team decided to continue with the latter though even when Shreyas returned to action and so the right-hand batter left the franchise ahead of the next season. He was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders at the 2022 auction for INR 12.25 crore and the management made him their full-time captain straight away.
Shreyas missed the entire 2023 season though with a back injury which required surgery. The batter returned to action next year with a bang, leading KKR to the top of the points table as well as their third IPL title. But, it was time for another change of franchise for the 31-year-old as the Kolkata franchise released him prior to the IPL 2025 auction. PBKS roped in the proven leader for a whopping INR 26.75 crore, making him the second-most expensive player ever.
Shreyas had his best year as a batter in the league in 2025, scoring 604 runs in 17 innings at a strike rate of 175.07 including six fifties. Not only personally, the season was one of the best for him as captain too. The right-hander led PBKS to their second IPL final, but unfortunately the team lost it by just six runs in the end. Shreyas will lead the side in 2026 once again and would hope to go one step further this time.
