A prodigy like no other, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, playing only his second IPL season, has already made a name for himself. The 15-year-old from Bihar seems to be batting without any fear and has made life extremely arduous for bowlers in the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League.
He struck a fabulous fifty against RCB in match No. 16 of the IPL in Guwahati, single-handedly winning the game for Rajasthan Royals, who were chasing 202. The southpaw spent 41 minutes at the crease and smashed 78 off just 26 balls, laced with eight boundaries and seven sixes, and batted at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 300.

It was his second 15-ball fifty of the season after his first came in Rajasthan's campaign opener against Chennai Super Kings at the same venue. Notably, Sooryavanshi is the only player in the 19-year-long history of the IPL to have three fifties under 18 balls. The lad from Bihar has four fifties in under 18 balls in T20 cricket, and only India's Abhishek Sharma has more (5). This was the third instance of Sooryavanshi scoring 50+ runs at 300+ strike rate in T20 cricket. Only Kieron Pollard has done it four times.
While Sooryavanshi is on a record-breaking spree, it seems ridiculous that he is only playing his second-ever IPL season. The 15-year-old first registered for the IPL auction in 2024 and became the youngest ever to do so at the tender age of 13. On November 25, 2024, when teams were carefully navigating amid the chaos of the auction, Sooryavanshi's name was announced and the announcements triggered a mini bidding war between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan.
Eventually, it were Rajasthan who had the last laugh as they made the winning bid of INR 1.10 crore to acquire the services of the southpaw. While Rajasthan had a season to forget, Sooryavanshi made it memorable from an individual standpoint, scoring 252 in seven innings at a strike rate of 206.55, and became the fastest centurion (Indian) in the IPL, taking just 35 balls to reach the milestone.
