Venkatesh Iyer made his IPL debut in 2021 after he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for INR 20 lakhs. However, a lesser-known fact about Venkatesh is that he found no buyer when he registered for the IPL auction in 2019 for the same price.
The southpaw straightaway got game time as he joined the KKR camp. He aggregated 370 runs for KKR in 10 games at an average of 41.11 and a strike rate of 128.47, including four half-centuries. He was incentivised for his promising start as KKR gave him INR 8 crore, a hike of 3900%, ahead of the 2022 season.

He couldn't quite keep up the same performance in 2022 and only managed 182 runs in 12 innings, averaging 16.54 at a strike rate of 107.69, with a fifty. However, the batting allrounder came back strongly in 2023 and justified his hike, accumulating 404 runs in 14 games.
He averaged 28.85 and batted at a strike rate of 145.84, including a hundred and two fifties. His hundred (104) came in a losing cause against Mumbai Indians as MI chased their target of 186 down with five wickets and 14 balls to spare. He was only the second KKR player, after Brendon McCullum, to register an IPL ton at the time.
He was released by the franchise ahead of the 2024 season, but they bought him back at the auction, splurging INR 23.75 crore at the auction. KKR released him after the 2025 season, and he was signed by RCB for INR 7 crore for the 2026 season.
