Abhishek Sharma continues to rewrite the record books in T20I cricket, with milestones tumbling almost every time he walks out to bat. The explosive opener has now become the fastest batter to reach 2,000 runs in men's T20 internationals, eclipsing the previous record held by compatriot Suryakumar Yadav.

Abhishek brought up the landmark in just 1,024 balls, comfortably surpassing Suryakumar's mark of 1,164 balls. Austria's Karanbir Singh (1,180 balls), former Australia captain Aaron Finch (1,283 balls) and UAE skipper Muhammad Waseem (1,293 balls) round out the top five fastest batters to reach 2,000 T20I runs.

Rank Player Country Balls to 2000 T20I Runs

2 Suryakumar Yadav India 1164

The milestone came during the series-deciding T20I against West Indies at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Sunday (October 11). After India lost Sanju Samson in only the second over, Abhishek produced another commanding display at the top of the order to lay the platform for yet another 200-plus total.

The left-hander smashed 69 off just 30 deliveries, tearing into the West Indies attack with six fours and five sixes at a blistering strike rate of 230.00. He also shared a 108-run partnership with No. 3 batter Ishan Kishan, putting India firmly in control of the contest.

Abhishek has enjoyed a prolific 2026 campaign in T20Is. The aggressive opener has amassed 921 runs in 32 matches at an average of 29.70 and an exceptional strike rate of 206.50. His tally includes one century and eight half-centuries.

He currently sits second on the leading run-scorers' list in T20Is this year, behind fellow Indian batter Ishan Kishan. Ishan tops the charts with 1,122 runs from the same number of matches, averaging 38.68 at a strike rate of 170.00. While Ishan has scored more runs and boasts a higher average, Abhishek has outpaced him significantly in terms of scoring rate.
