In cricketing history, there have been several teams which have been extremely difficult to beat. Most strong teams are infallible in almost all conditions, but they become a completely different beast at home. Since the turn of the century, most top cricketing nations have made their home grounds impregnable fortresses, hunting down teams one after the other.
Winning against these teams has been a major goal of all cricketing nations, but the achievement has eluded many. Here are the top three most dominant teams at home in the 21st century:
3. South Africa (273 wins)
The Proteas have been one of the strongest sides of the 21st century, having given stellar performances regularly in ICC events. While they fell short of winning world titles on most occasions, South Africa remained one of the most dominant teams at home. They’ve won 273 out of 434 matches in the 21st century, across formats at home, with a win percentage of 62.90%.
2. India (306 wins)
The Men in Blue have made a remarkable rise in world cricket in the 21st century, having won several historic Test series and multiple ICC trophies. Captains like Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have played key roles in making India a cricketing behemoth over the past few years. Alongside winning ICC titles, India kept their remarkable home record intact, winning 306 out of 474 matches, with a win percentage of 64.55%.
1. Australia (310 wins)
Australia have been the most dominant team of the 21st century at home, across all three formats. They began their journey under the leadership of Steve Waugh, who guided them to Test series victory against almost every cricketing nation. Later, Ricky Ponting took over the reins and continued Australia’s Test success along with guiding them to two World Cups and as many Champions Trophy victories.
Alongside their triumphs in multi-national tournaments, Australia have maintained a strong home record, winning 310 out of 447 matches with a win percentage of 69.35%.
