VVS Laxman's coaching record for India

Team India will aim for their second consecutive gold medal in the men’s cricket competition at the Asian Games, which gets underway on September 24. The All India Senior Men’s National Selection Committee has announced a strong squad for the continental event, with Shreyas Iyer set to lead the unit.

The Men in Blue will have VVS Laxman as head coach for the marquee tournament because the ODI leg of West Indies’ tour of India overlaps with the Asian Games. Incumbent head coach Gautam Gambhir will be with the ODI squad. This is not the first time Laxman has been asked to step in as head coach. He was recently in charge of the touring party that played a three‑match T20I series in Zimbabwe and registered a 3-0 whitewash.

Laxman, who currently heads BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE), also coached the Ruturaj Gaikwad‑led side that won the gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. He has served as India’s head coach in nine tournaments, winning eight and losing one series. Overall, he has won 22 matches, lost four, while five games ended without a result.
