Rajasthan Royals opened their IPL 2026 campaign in commanding fashion, winning their first four matches and quickly establishing themselves as one of the teams to beat alongside Punjab Kings. That early momentum showcased consistency and balance in the top order and the bowling department as they clicked in unison.

However, the campaign has hit turbulence. Royals have suffered defeats in their last two outings and are yet to record a win in May. Their most recent victory came on April 28 against Punjab Kings (PBKS), where they secured a six‑wicket triumph. Since then, results have faltered, leaving playoff ambitions under pressure.

After 60 matches in the season, Royals sit fifth on the points table. With six wins and five losses from 11 games, they have accumulated 12 points and hold a net run rate (NRR) of 0.082. While this position keeps them in contention, the margin for error has narrowed significantly.

Next up is a crucial clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 17. Delhi, currently on 10 points from 12 matches, must win both of their remaining fixtures to stay alive in the playoff race.

That urgency ensures Royals will face a determined opponent. In what comes across as good news for Royals fans, Riyan Parag was seen batting in the nets ahead of the contest and might play a role on Sunday.

How can Rajasthan Royals qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs?

  • Win all three matches: The most straightforward path. Securing victories in each of their remaining fixtures would take Royals to 18 points, guaranteeing playoff qualification without reliance on other teams.

  • Win one or two matches: This scenario complicates matters. Royals would then need both Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings to lose all of their remaining games. Punjab currently have 13 points from 12 matches, while Chennai stand on 12 points from the same number of fixtures.

Despite recent setbacks, Rajasthan Royals remain in control of their destiny. Three consecutive wins would secure a playoff berth comfortably, reaffirming their early‑season promise and keeping alive hopes of another deep run in IPL 2026.
