3 former cricketers who became successful coaches in other countries

In international cricket, there have been several players who’ve etched their names in the history books with remarkable performances for their nation. After their respective careers, these players become a huge asset for any team due to their immense experience and knowledge.

While some former players get roped in by their national teams in the coaching role, some go on to become successful coaches for other countries after the end of their cricketing careers. Here are top three cricketers, who became successful coaches for other countries:

1. Gary Kirsten

Former South Africa opener had an impressive playing career, scoring more than 14,000 international runs across Tests and ODIs. Post his cricketing career, Gary Kirsten became a successful coach in world cricket. 

Kirsten took charge of India in 2008 and quickly built a strong relationship with the players. His tenure culminated in one of India's greatest cricketing achievements as they won the 2011 ODI World Cup on home soil. Under Kirsten, India also became the No. 1-ranked Test team for the first time.

2. Andy Flower

The Zimbabwe legend was one of the finest wicketkeeper-batters of his generation, scoring 11,580 runs in his international career across both Tests and ODIs.

After his cricketing career, Flower became England's head coach in 2009 and oversaw one of the most successful periods in their history. With him at the helm, England clinched their maiden ICC title, winning the 2010 T20 World Cup in the West Indies.

The Three Lions also registered a historic Ashes triumph in Australia in 2010-11 and became the number-one ranked Test team after whitewashing India 4-0 in 2011.

3. Mickey Arthur

Mickey Arthur didn’t have an illustrious playing career in South Africa, but today he’s known as one of the most successful coaches in international cricket.

He initially had a successful stint as South Africa’s head coach, helping them become one of the world's strongest sides. Later, he also coached Australia and Pakistan. However, his biggest success came with Pakistan in 2017, when they won the Champions Trophy, defeating India in the final.
