T20 cricket has evolved into one of the most demanding and result-oriented formats in the sport. With leagues mushrooming across the globe, opportunities for players and coaches abound, but so does scrutiny.
Franchise owners invest heavily, expecting instant returns through match-winning performances and tactical brilliance. Coaches, in particular, are judged swiftly: deliver results, and you earn longevity; falter, and you risk a premature exit.
Here is a look at five coaches who carved out the longest stints with a single franchise in T20 cricket.
#1 Stephen Fleming
Stephen Fleming is widely regarded as the gold standard in franchise coaching. The former New Zealand batter joined Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2009, just a year after appearing in the IPL auction as a player. Under his stewardship, CSK clinched five IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, 2023) and two Champions League T20 trophies (2010/11, 2014/15). Fleming spent an extraordinary 18 years at the franchise before parting ways on July 13, 2026.
#2 Greg Shipperd
Greg Shipperd took charge of Sydney Sixers ahead of the 2015 BBL season and remained at the helm until 2025–26. His tenure brought sustained success with two consecutive titles (2019–20, 2020–21) and four runners-up finishes (2016–17, 2021–22, 2023–24, 2025–26).
#3 Jason Gillespie
Former Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie joined the Adelaide Strikers in 2015–16. His hard work with the squad paid off when he guided them to their maiden BBL title in 2017–18, defeating Hobart Hurricanes by 25 runs in the final. Gillespie stepped down after the 2023–24 season, ending a near decade of service.
#4 Moin Khan
Moin Khan became the head coach of Quetta Gladiators in the inaugural PSL season of 2016. He led them to back-to-back runners-up finishes in 2016 and 2017, before finally clinching the title in 2019 with an eight-wicket win over Peshawar Zalmi. Moin remained head coach until 2023, after which he was elevated to Team Director ahead of the 2024 season.
#5 Adam Voges
Adam Voges has established himself as one of the most successful coaches in BBL history. Appointed head coach of Perth Scorchers in 2018–19, he led them to three titles with back-to-back wins in 2021–22 and 2022–23, followed by another in 2025–26. Voges continues in his role, with Scorchers poised for more success under his guidance.
