Scoring an ODI hundred is no easy feat. Many players make their debuts, play out their careers, and never once reach the three‑figure mark. The battle between bat and ball is often razor‑thin, and sometimes even after reaching the milestone once, a batter can be made to wait years before raising the bat again.
Here are three players who endured the longest gaps between two ODI hundreds:
1. Andy Flower (3163 days)
Andy Flower, one of Zimbabwe’s finest, announced himself in style during his ODI debut against Sri Lanka at New Plymouth in the 1992 World Cup. Opening the innings, he crafted a gritty 115 off 152 balls with eight fours and a six. Despite his brilliance, Sri Lanka chased down 313 to win by three wickets.
Flower’s next hundred came more than eight years later, again against Sri Lanka, in the Coca‑Cola Champions Trophy on October 21, 2000. Batting at four, he struck an unbeaten 120 off 141 balls, once again peppered with eight fours and a six. Yet, Zimbabwe fell short as Sri Lanka chased 226 with seven wickets in hand.
2. Mohammad Nabi (3036 days)
Afghanistan’s veteran allrounder Mohammad Nabi scored his first ODI ton on October 18, 2015, against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. His 116 off 121 balls, featuring three fours and six sixes, powered Afghanistan to a 58‑run victory.
It would take Nabi 3036 days to notch up another century. On February 9, 2024, at Pallekele against Sri Lanka, he produced a valiant 136 off 130 balls with 15 fours and three sixes while chasing 382. Despite his heroics, Afghanistan fell short, finishing on 339.
3. Glenn Turner (2836 days)
Former New Zealand captain Glenn Turner sits third on this list. His second ODI hundred came on June 14 in the 1975 Prudential World Cup against India, where he scored 114 off 177 balls with 13 fours. His knock guided the Kiwis to a four‑wicket win chasing 231.
Turner’s next century arrived on March 20, 1983, against Sri Lanka in Auckland. He blasted 140 off 130 balls, striking 13 fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 107.69. His innings propelled New Zealand to 304, and they sealed victory by 116 runs.
