The Bangladesh government has dissolved the previous Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) panel of administrators which was led by former captain Aminul Islam. In its place, the National Sports Council of Bangladesh has appointed a 11-member ad-hoc committee with former opener Tamim Iqbal as president with the other 10 members being Athar Ali Khan, Minhajul Abedin, Rashna Imam, Mirza Yeasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfil Khasru, Tanjil Chowdhury, Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam and Fahim Sinha.

The NSC's decision followed the recommendations of the five-member investigation committee which found several irregularities in the conduct of the previous board election in October last year. The investigation arm of the federal government revealed the findings and recommendations at a press conference today wherein they shared the details of the elections.

The committee spokesperson stated that the formation of the previous board of directors was not done properly and the NSC has informed the ICC about its decision to dissolve and reinstate a new committee.

"As part of the National Sports Council's responsibility, we have informed the ICC that this board of directors was not formed in a proper manner, and is not able to complete its work in a proper manner. We have informed the ICC our decision to dissolve this board of directors. The NSC plays an important role for Bangladesh cricket or any sport in Bangladesh and on behalf of the government. Therefore, we are optimistic about the BCB and we think that the ICC will definitely uphold this decision," said NSC sports director Mohammed Aminul Ahesan as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Meanwhile, Aminul Islam recently said that he was determined to continue in his role as BCB president despite the developments happening around him. The pressure was growing on the former captain and the board to provide explanations on the various issues ranging from the alleged irregularities in the conduct of the board elections, political interference in the BCB's affairs, and the absence of the senior men's team from the T20 World Cup 2026 which concluded last month. Notably, the recent turmoil has witnessed the resignations of four directors last week along with two others' earlier.

Tamim retired from international cricket in early 2025. The former left-hander was active in the domestic tournaments subsequently, but his career came to a sudden end when the 37-year-old suffered a heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League game. Tamim decided to contest the board elections later in the year but withdrew his candidature after alleging irregularities in the process.
