Bangladesh hopeful of hosting India for white-ball series soon: Tamim Iqbal

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) remains hopeful of hosting India for six white-ball matches during the 2026-27 season. Bangladesh were supposed to host India for three ODIs and as many T20Is in August-September 2026. However, there was no update regarding the tour by either board, and India are now scheduled to play Afghanistan in September.

Earlier, BCB president Tamim Iqbal mentioned that it could be postponed again. On Monday, Tamim gave a fresh update on the series, saying that the two boards are in talks to get the tour back in the schedule and assured that it could materialise soon.

"All I can tell you is that both the cricket boards are in discussion. It is a fruitful talk, and I am hopeful this will happen,” Tamim was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

BCB had announced the tour on January 2, 2026, but days after the announcement, their relations with the BCCI deteriorated due to Mustafizur Rahman’s ouster from the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026).

It resulted in Bangladesh’s interim government instructing the BCB to withdraw from the men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Following the restoration of democratic leadership in Bangladesh, the newly elected government has adopted a more positive stance towards India touring the country.

India and Bangladesh's cricketing relations constantly improving

Relations between the BCB and BCCI improved further when Tamim, in his new role as BCB president, travelled to India earlier this month, reportedly visiting the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Bangladesh and India last played a bilateral series in September-October 2024 in India before facing each other in the Champions Trophy 2025 and Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai.
