The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia has said that they will take strict action against Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) teams maligning the tournament’s image. Much of the controversy this season has been created by Rajasthan Royals (RR), who’ve found themselves in the news for the wrong reasons.

First, their team manager, Ravinder Singh Bhinder, was seen using a mobile phone in the team’s dugout. Later, their captain, Riyan Parag, was spotted vaping inside the dressing room. Bhinder was fined INR 1 lakh, whereas Parag was handed a fine of 25% of his match fees along with a demerit point.

Reacting to the matter, Devajit Saikia said that the board is exploring options to take action against the teams which are violating the norms.

"We are exploring some other options about how to bring the teams which are violating the norms. We will be taking some action. We are looking at the various terms and conditions and protocols of IPL [around] how the teams behave,” Saikia was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Bhinder had reportedly told the BCCI anti-corruption unit that the breach was inadvertent and even apologised before the fine was imposed. Saikia further stressed the importance of teams maintaining decorum to protect the image of IPL.

Rajasthan Royals to face GT next

"It is not just players or officials. As a team, they have to maintain some decorum so that the image of the IPL is never adversely affected. To ensure that we have to take a call and we will be taking some action,” he added.

Recently, Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach Kumar Sangakkara said that both issues were addressed by the BCCI, and they’re trying to have a positive and healthy culture in the team as a franchise.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals (RR) are placed fourth in the IPL 2026 points table with six wins from ten matches, having 12 points to their name. They will next take on Gujarat Titans (GT) on Saturday, May 9, at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
