Australia and Adelaide Strikers fast bowler Darcie Brown has been ruled out of the Women’s Big Bash League 2026-27 with a back issue. Brown recently played two T20s and a one-day game on the recent Australia A tour of India and scalped 3 for 39 in Mohali.

However, she had to return home midway through the tour with a disc issue that also ruled her out of selection for Australia's ODI series against Bangladesh as well as the upcoming T20I assignment against New Zealand.

Australia’s National selector Shawn Flegler had earlier revealed that Australia's medical staff were hopeful that Brown could be back for the second half of the WBBL. However, Cricket Australia (CA) has now confirmed that the fast bowler has been ruled out of the entire tournament.

"Brown was assessed following her return home from India last month, and following a period of de-loading, her injury has not yet recovered to a point where she is ready to resume training. As a result, and she will be unable to return to full fitness in time for the upcoming WBBL season,” the statement said.

Darcie Brown in contention for Champions Trophy selection

Flegler had also said that even if the injury ruled Brown out of the WBBL, she would be in contention for the inaugural edition of the Women's Champions Trophy in 2027 to be hosted in India. Darcie Brown was not selected for the T20 World Cup this year for tactical reasons.

She has scalped 67 wickets in her WBBL career from 62 matches at an average of 20.91 and an economy of 6.45. She last played for Australia during the ODI series against the West Indies in April 2026.
