Former Australia cricketer David Warner has been charged with drink driving after undergoing a breath test on Sunday night (April 5) in Maroubra, Sydney. Warner was found to be in an inebriated state with twice the amount of alcohol in his body than the legal limit. The cricketer was subsequently arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where he recorded a reading of 0.104 in the breath test.
The former opening batter is due to appear in court next month. According to a statement provided to news.com.au by the New South Wales (NSW) police, Warner stopped and parked his vehicle before reaching the testing site, where officers approached and put him under a breath test, which returned a positive result.

“About 5:30pm today (Sunday 5 April 2026), police were conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra. A van was seen to allegedly stop short of the testing site and park. Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached the vehicle and subjected the driver – a 39-year-old man – to roadside testing, which returned a positive result,” said the statement as quoted by news.com.au.
“He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where a second test allegedly returned a reading of 0.104. The man was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for drive with middle-range PCA to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, 7 May 2026,” the statement added.
Having retired from international cricket in January 2024, Warner continues to ply his trade in T20 leagues across the globe. He is currently participating in the Pakistan Super League 2026 (PSL 2026), where he’s captaining Karachi Kings.
Warner to return to Pakistan
He returned to Australia for a few days due to personal reasons, with a seven-day gap between Karachi’s third and fourth fixtures. Warner is set to return to Pakistan for his team’s next match against Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday, April 9, at National Stadium, Karachi.
Under his leadership, Karachi has started the tournament on a high note, having won all three of their fixtures so far. Warner has also contributed heavily with his bat in the season so far, having scored 93 runs from three innings, including a half-century.
