Delhi Capitals (DC) and Bengal batter Abhishek Porel has been arrested in Hooghly district of West Bengal, following allegations of sexual relations on the pretext of marriage by a woman. Porel was initially taken into custody and was arrested after interrogation.

The cricketer has been sent for a medical examination and was produced before the Chinsurah Court, as the case now moves through the legal process.

“Abishek Porel illegally confined the complainant. He denied her food and deliberately kept her isolated. As a result... the complainant became physically weak and was unable to walk properly. Despite having a flight... she was compelled to seek immediate medical attention due to the injuries sustained," the FIR against Porel read as per Indiatoday.in

A case (FIR No. 346/2026) was filed by the victim at the Mogra Police Station in Hooghly district of West Bengal earlier this year. Porel was booked under non-bailable offences of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including rape and criminal intimidation.

The victim has alleged that the cricketer had established a sexual relationship with her on the false promise of marriage and subjected her to assault and criminal intimidation.

Porel faces allegations of cheating

As per the complainant, the duo had been in a three-year relationship and even travelled abroad together. Their families had also met, and they were moving towards marriage.

However, the couple had a fall-out after she allegedly learnt about Porel's relationships with other women, leading to the relationship breaking down. Following the incident, the cricketer began distancing himself from her. According to the complaint, the woman was also confined and denied food, which left her physically weak and needing medical attention.

Victim alleges private moments were also recorded

The complaint also includes allegations that private moments were recorded and the material was later allegedly used to threaten or intimidate the complainant. The matter subsequently reached the Calcutta High Court after the complainant approached it for relief. The court directed the police to take steps towards Porel’s arrest as part of the ongoing investigation.

The court also instructed Mogra Police to seize Porel’s electronic devices to prevent the alleged circulation of photographs or other private material involving the complainant.

As part of the investigation, police had already seized a pen drive, which has been sent for forensic examination. The allegations against Porel are yet to be established in court, and the facts of the case will be determined as the investigation moves ahead.
