Delhi Capitals batter Abishek Porel in hot water as Calcutta High Court orders arrest in alleged rape case

Delhi Capitals' (DC) wicketkeeper batter Abishek Porel has landed in a soup as the honourable Calcutta High Court has ordered his immediate arrest and also the seizure of all the electronic devices in his possession due to his involvement in an ongoing alleged rape case. It is alleged that the southpaw threatened to circulate the intimate photos and the videos of the victim.
A case (FIR No. 346/2026) was filed by the victim at the Mogra Police Station in Hooghly district of West Bengal earlier this year. Porel was booked under non-bailable offences of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including rape and criminal intimidation.
“It is disclosed in the communication dated 6th July, 2026, that one pen drive/storage device is seized from the petitioner....and it is believed that certain materials are stored therein... It appears that accused persons...are required to be apprehended for seizure of electronic devices lying with them so that data stored therein cannot be shared with others…,” the order issued by the High Court read.
“Communication dated 6th July, 2026 discloses steps taken by the concerned police authorities for apprehending...[the accused] but fact remains...[they] are yet to be apprehended. Concerned police authorities are directed to continue with their endeavour to apprehend respondent nos.6 & 7 [accused] and to make seizure of devices so obnoxious data stored therein shall not be further disseminated,” the order further added.
The victim has alleged that she and Porel were dating for the last three years, but their relationship hit rocky waters in 2025 after which the latter started avoiding her. The complainant also claimed that Porel had promised to marry her.
Meanwhile, Porel has vehemently denied the allegations. He was a part of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026 after being retained for INR 4 crore. The southpaw aggregated 108 runs in four matches in the 2026 season at an average of 27.00 and a strike rate of just 122.72.
