New Zealand batter Devon Conway has been ruled out of the ongoing five-match ODI series against India due to concussion. Conway had a collision with fast bowler Matt Henry during New Zealand's pre-match training session in Auckland and missed the first ODI.

The duo collided while attempting a catch and were immediately treated by medical staff on-site and received Head Injury Assessments. Devon Conway was further taken to A&E for examination, which confirmed a concussion. On the other hand, Henry has been cleared of the injury and will be available for selection for the second ODI in Wellington.

In Conway’s place, Nick Kelly, who was originally selected only for the fourth and fifth ODIs, will now join the New Zealand squad in Wellington. Kelly has been released from the New Zealand A squad, which is set to play its third match of the unofficial Test series against India A in Lincoln and Auckland batter Dale Phillips has been added in his place.

New Zealand have been marred by several injury concerns in the ongoing series as earlier batters Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra were also ruled out of the ODI series due to hamstring and shoulder injuries, respectively.

India leading series 1-0

Meanwhile, India are leading the series 1-0 following a five-wicket victory in the series opener in Auckland. After being put in to bat first, New Zealand were bundled out for 185 in 40.2 overs as Arshdeep Singh (4/70), Gurnoor Brar (3/44, 9.2 overs) and Anshul Kamboj (2/22) ran through their batting lineup.

In reply, the Men in Blue chased down the DLS-revised target of 143 in 22.4 overs, riding on a splendid innings from Virat Kohli. The star batter played at a strike rate of 145.10 on a difficult track, scoring 74 (51) with the help of 13 fours and a six. Captain Shubman Gill (37 off 56) also made a valuable contribution in the run chase.
