England unveiled their 16-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against India on Friday, July 3. James Coles, who received his maiden call-up for the ongoing T20I series, has also been added to the ODI squad. The three-match ODI series begins on July 14 at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

In his List A career, Coles has amassed 425 runs from 24 matches at an average of 26.56 with two fifties to his name. His left-arm orthodox spin has also fetched him 26 wickets with best figures of 3/23.

Apart from him, Josh Tongue, who’s yet to make his ODI debut, is also a part of the team. The right-arm speedster has played 12 Tests for England and scalped 57 wickets. In his List A career, he has 16 wickets to his name from 15 matches.

Fast bowlers Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood have also marked their return to the squad. Atkinson, who has 11 appearances in ODIs, last played the 50-over format in February 2025 against India. The speedster has picked 13 wickets with best figures of 2/28.

On the other hand, Mahmood played his last ODI against South Africa in September, 2025. He has 25 wickets to his name from 17 matches at an average of 29.12 and an economy of 5.19.

Jacob Bethell to open the innings?

Jofra Archer also marks his return to ODI cricket after he was rested for the last series in Sri Lanka in January. Brydon Carse (hand) and Jamie Overton (quad) are both unavailable for the series due to injuries, though Carse was seen training with the England T20I squad ahead of their washed-out first match against India in Durham.

Harry Brook will continue to lead the squad as England will look to win their first 50-over series against India after 2018. Since then, India have won the last three successive series played between the two teams, including a 3-0 whitewash at home in 2025 ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025.

Meanwhile, with Zak Crawley dropped, Jacob Bethell is the front-runner to open alongside Ben Duckett in the upcoming series.
