England have announced their playing XI for the second T20I against India to be played on Saturday, July 4, at Old Trafford, Manchester. The hosts will be heading into the second game after having made two changes, as Josh Tongue has been handed his T20I debut.

The right-arm speedster has played 12 Test matches so far, having picked up 57 wickets. However, he’s yet to don the ODI and T20I jerseys in his three-year-long career. In his T20 career, Tongue has picked 29 wickets from 21 matches at an average of 19.03, with best figures of 3/21.

Apart from him, Jofra Archer will also mark his return after being rested for the series opener in Durham, having played back-to-back Test matches against New Zealand. England have dropped Saqib Mahmood and Luke Wood to make way for the fast-bowling duo for the second match.

Mahmood had a good outing in the series opener, taking three wickets for 33 runs in his four overs. He got the big scalps of Sanju Samson (1 off 7), Shreyas Iyer (68 off 47) and Tilak Varma (13 off 13). On the other hand, Wood was whacked for 35 runs in his three overs in the first T20I.

India's batting woes continue

Meanwhile, the series is levelled 0-0 after the first T20I got washed out due to inclement weather. India managed to bat the complete quota of 20 overs and posted 189/7 after captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat first. The Men in Blue got off to a disastrous start as Sanju Samson (1 off 7) and Ishan Kishan (0 off 2) were dismissed with just six runs on the board after two overs.

However, a quick-fire half-century from Abhishek Sharma (59 off 24) rescued the team. India again got stuck in the middle overs as Tilak Varma (13 off 13) and Shreyas Iyer (68 off 47) couldn’t score at a rapid rate. It took a blistering knock from Shivam Dube (42* off 21) to help the team cross the 180-run mark. After a washout in the series opener, both teams will be eager to get a lead in the second T20I.

England’s playing XI for the second T20I vs India: Philip Salt, Jos Buttler, Harry Brook (captain), Jacob Bethell, Tom Banton, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Dawson, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Josh Tongue.
