England seize control of Lord's Test as Pakistan capitulate on day 2

England seized control of the Lord's Test with a domineering performance against Pakistan, bowling them out for just 110 in the first innings and building a sizeable lead of 261 runs.

England’s last batting pair, Josh Tongue and Gus Atkinson, frustrated Pakistan’s attack by adding 42 more to their overnight total of 248. Atkinson missed out on his fifty, falling five short of the milestone as he lost his wicket to Ali Usman. Tongue remained unbeaten on 30.

Pakistan’s horrid run with the bat on tour continued as they capitulated against a disciplined English attack. Opener Azan Awais top-scored with 46 off 102 balls. Scoring opportunities were hard to come by for the youngster, but he showed grit and hung in. He was denied a maiden fifty on English soil by Ollie Robinson.

Robinson had a deep square leg and fine leg in place for the left-hander, who failed to time an aerial pull to perfection. Awais holed out at deep square leg off a 77 mph bouncer, with Emilio Gay completing a comfortable catch.

Robinson proved to be nightmare incarnate for the tourists as they failed to keep him at bay. The right-arm seamer returned figures of 4 for 11 from 13 overs, including six maidens. His economy rate of 0.84 speaks volumes about his control and the pressure he exerted on Pakistan’s batters. Jofra Archer (3/26) and Tongue (2/27) ensured Pakistan had no breathing space. Imam-ul-Haq was absent hurt after he sustained an injury to his left calf while fielding on the opening day of the game.

England also lost three wickets in their second innings, including Joe Root, who was pinned in front of his stumps yet again. They finished the day at 81 for 3, with Harry Brook (7*) and Gay (30*) unbeaten at stumps.
