Punjab Kings’ star finisher Shashank Singh and his father, Shailesh Singh, a retired IPS officer, have been named in an FIR for allegedly assaulting, verbally abusing, and illegally confining their domestic cook.

The complainant, Vipendra Singh Tomar, a 31‑year‑old resident of Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh, was hired to work at the family’s residence in Mendori Village, Bhopal. Tomar has also named the family’s driver as a co‑accused. The case is currently under investigation by Ratibad Police.

According to Tomar’s written complaint, he was brought from Rewa to Bhopal through an acquaintance and promised a monthly salary of INR 15,000, along with free lodging and food at Shailesh Singh’s Nilbad bungalow. He was also assured of assistance in securing a government job in the future.

However, Tomar alleges that within days of joining, he faced relentless verbal abuse and mental pressure, beginning with repeated complaints about the quality of food. When he expressed his desire to quit and return home, he claims he was prevented from leaving. His mobile phone was allegedly seized, cutting off all contact with the outside world.

The situation escalated when Tomar tried to lock himself in a room. He alleges that Shashank, his father, and their driver forcibly entered and assaulted him. A medical examination conducted by police has confirmed injury marks on his face and body.

Based on the complaint, Ratibad Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita:

  1. Section 296(B): Obscene acts and public verbal abuse
  2. Section 115(2): Voluntarily causing hurt/assault
  3. Section 3(5): Joint criminal liability (acts done by multiple people with common intention)

This development comes after a difficult IPL season for Shashank. He struggled in the field, dropping several catches and often appearing a liability. With the bat, he managed 188 runs in nine innings at an average of 22.00, albeit at a brisk strike rate of 188.57.
