Gujarat Titans (GT) survived a major safety scare after the bus ferrying them back to their team hotel broke down as a result of a short circuit after the final of IPL 2026 on May 31. All the players were safely evacuated midway and had to wait roadside for a short while before a different bus was arranged to take them back to the hotel.

The incident occurred after Gujarat Titans suffered a chastening five-wicket loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final of IPL 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Gujarat Titans' right-arm pacer Mohammed Siraj shared an image (on Instagram stories) of himself sitting roadside along with teammates and fellow right-arm speedster Ishant Sharma, slow left-arm orthodox bowler Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, and left-arm seamer Kulwant Khejroliya due to the breakdown. No injuries were caused to any of the players or members of the support staff due to the incident.

Gujarat Titans suffer chastening loss on home turf

Titans had a night to forget as their dream of winning their second IPL title was reduced to pieces by a formidable Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) side. After being asked to set a total on the board, GT failed to make the most out of the placid surface at the Narendra Modi Stadium and could only manage 155 for the loss of eight wickets.

While the GT bowlers, especially Rashid Khan (2/25), bowled magnificently well, 155 was never going to be enough to challenge RCB. Virat Kohli anchored the chase beautifully, taking RCB home with as many as two overs to spare.

Notably, RCB have become only the third team in the 19-year-long history of the competition to successfully defend their title. Chennai Super Kings, under the leadership of MS Dhoni (2010 and 2011) and Mumbai Indians under Rohit Sharma's captaincy (2019 and 2020) have done it previously.
