Australia head coach Andrew McDonald feels 'it's only a matter of time' before Cameron Green performs for the national team, and therefore it seems likely that the selection panel will continue to back the allrounder for upcoming red-ball assignments.
Green, 26, had a fairly ordinary Ashes at home where he consistently struggled to make profound impacts with both bat and ball in hand. He aggregated 171 runs in eight innings at an average of 24.42 and could only manage at 70.75 across the 61.5 overs he bowled.

However, McDonald is confident that Green has got it in him to come good for Australia as he has done reasonably well at the first-class level. Green scored a ton for Western Australia in his last Shield game and has an average of 45.52 at the first-class level to go with 15 centuries and 16 half-centuries.
McDonald recently appeared on SEN radio and was asked whether Green was going to be in the scheme of things in Test cricket moving forward, despite his outings in the Ashes.
"I think the answer to that is, yes," said McDonald. "I've got to talk to the selectors around that, there's a couple of others on the panel. But if you looked at the last team, let's just take that, Usman [Khawaja] has retired, and he vacates the No. 5 position where he was opening and he went to five to finish off. But you've got Webster and Green that potentially can play in the same team, should we see it that way, so that gives us incredible flexibility. "But I think he's [Green] good enough. Anyone that's averaging that at Shield level suggests that he's ahead of the pack there, and it's only a matter of time before it gets to a situation where he's performing for Australia. "I think he's got a few things to work on around his game, but that's no different to anyone else."
Cameron Green's bowling workload under scrutiny in IPL 2026
"Cameron has a lower-back injury, which is being managed, but requires him to abstain from bowling for a short period," a CA spokesperson was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. "Cameron is currently rebuilding his bowling loads in India with a view to return in around 10-12 days' time. KKR has been communicated with and is fully aware of this information."
