Imran Tahir, 47, 'very keen to come back' and play CPL in 2027

Guyana Amazon Warriors skipper Imran Tahir has expressed his desire to return to the Caribbean Premier League in 2027, by which time he will be 48. Tahir led Guyana in the 2026 season and guided them to Qualifier 2, where eventual champions Jamaica Kingsmen beat them by five wickets.

Tahir finished as one of the joint leading wicket-takers in CPL 2026 with 16 wickets, alongside Hunain Shah of Jamaica Kingsmen, Alzarri Joseph of Antigua and Barbuda Falcons and Matthew Forde of St Lucia Kings.

"I am very keen to come back and play because I feel this is my home. I get a lot of love when I come here," Tahir said at a press conference in Georgetown after the conclusion of the CPL. "I am looking to finish my career in front of the Guyanese crowd.

"I am very motivated. I really wanted to finish this season on a high note and I am probably looking to finish my career in front of the Guyanese crowd.

"I just want to say a big thank you to them. I would really like to see myself coming here and saying goodbye."

Tahir has claimed 146 wickets in 102 CPL matches. He also led Guyana Amazon Warriors to the Global Super League title this year, a tournament that featured San Francisco Unicorns, Desert Vipers, Lahore Qalandars and Perth Scorchers.

"I get motivated to come here and play my cricket, trying to get fit, eat well," Tahir said. "It is not easy because if someone is eating ice cream in front of me, it is very difficult to control myself. But that is what you have to do if you want to play for another year and another year."

Overall, Tahir has claimed 593 wickets in 465 T20 matches. He is fourth on the all-time wicket-takers list in T20 cricket after Dwayne Bravo (631 wickets), Sunil Narine (658 wickets) and Rashid Khan (740 wickets).
