West Indies have added wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo to the squad as cover for Jewel Andrew for the upcoming T20I series against India, beginning on October 6 in Lucknow. Andrew sustained a finger injury during the third ODI against the same opposition in New Chandigarh but hasn’t been ruled out of the T20I series, with the medical team still assessing him.
Jewel Andrew was dismissed for a golden duck in the first ODI and missed the second ODI before returning for the third match. He hurt his finger while taking a catch at cover to dismiss Naman Dhir.
The 19-year-old was immediately taken to hospital for scans where, much to his good fortune, no fracture was revealed, but he didn’t come out to bat in West Indies’ successful run chase of 352.
Meanwhile, Jangoo has played seven T20Is in his career so far and scored 163 runs from seven innings at an average of 32.60 with one fifty to his name. He has played 32 T20 matches overall in his career and scored 710 runs at an average of 27.30 and a strike rate of 104.25 with five fifties to his name.
Amir Jangoo's rich form
Jangoo played a key role in Antigua and Barbuda Falcons' victorious run to the Caribbean Premier League 2026 (CPL 2026) title in September, with 213 runs from nine innings. He slammed a match-winning half-century in the final against Jamaica Kingsmen, scoring 57* (34) hitting four fours and three sixes.
He is fresh from a prolific run throughout the ODI series, registering three successive fifty-plus scores, scoring 58* (43), 114 (77), and 67 (56) in the three innings, respectively.
India and West Indies fined
The southpaw was the third-highest run scorer of the rubber with 239 runs from three innings at an average of 119.50 and a strike rate of 135.79.
Meanwhile, both India and West Indies have been fined for maintaining a slow over rate during the third ODI. India have been fined 20 per cent of their match fee, while West Indies have been fined 10 per cent after being ruled four and two overs short of their required over-rates, respectively, once time allowances were taken into consideration.
