Veteran England batters Heather Knight and Tammy Beaumont were given a guard of honour by Indian players following their dismissals in their last innings as England cricketers in the ongoing Test match at Lord’s. While Beaumont had announced her retirement ahead of the match, Knight sent shockwaves with her decision after Day 2 of the game.

With England set a massive 457-run target in the fourth innings, both players walked out to bat under extreme pressure on Day 3. Beaumont had a nightmarish end to her career, being castled by Kranti Gaud on her very first ball of the innings for a golden duck.

On the other hand, Knight managed to bide her time at the crease, scoring 13 (34), before getting caught at short leg by Richa Ghosh, also falling prey to Gaud. Following the dismissals of both batters, Indian players gathered around them to give a guard of honour as the duo walked off for the final time in England jerseys.

Knight and Beaumont's illustrious careers

Knight will always be remembered for guiding England to the ODI World Cup triumph in 2017 on home soil. She finishes her career as England’s most-capped women’s cricketer with 320 appearances to her name and scored 8017 runs. She captained England on 199 occasions in international cricket from 2016 to 2025, guiding them to 134 victories.

On the other hand, Tammy Beaumont has represented England in 261 international matches and scored 7,327 runs. She holds the record for the most centuries for England women’s in ODI cricket, having reached the landmark 12 times in her career.

Beaumont was also the Player of the Tournament in England’s victorious campaign in the ODI World Cup 2017, finishing as the leading run scorer of the tournament with 410 runs to her name. Both Knight and Beaumont are the only two England women's batters to score a century in all three formats of the game.
