Gujarat Titans (GT) bounced back to winning ways in the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026), beating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 8 wickets in Match 37 on Sunday, April 26, at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. After being put in to bat first, CSK struggled their way to 158/7 in their allotted 20 overs, riding on a half-century from captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (74 off 60).
In reply, GT chased down the target in 16.4 overs, as Sai Sudharsan continued his rich form with his second successive 80-plus score. Earlier, CSK were left in all sorts of trouble as Kagiso Rabada and Mohammad Siraj ran through their top order. Sanju Samson (11 off 15), Urvil Patel (4 off 3) and Sarfaraz Khan (0 off 1) all departed cheaply in the powerplay, leaving CSK on 26/3 in 4.4 overs.

Dewald Brevis (2 off 9) also fell prey to Manav Suthar, leaving CSK on 37/4 in 8.2 overs. However, a 59-run stand off 43 balls between Gaikwad and Shivam Dube (22 off 17) helped stabilise the innings and push the run rate above six. Gaikwad was on 20* (37) at one stage, but accelerated to bring up his half-century off 49 balls.
Kartik Sharma (15 off 9) and Jamie Overton (18 off 6) also made valuable contributions to push CSK's score past 150.
In the second innings, GT again got off to a good start with captain Shubman Gill (33 off 23) and Sai Sudharsan adding 58 runs for the first wicket off 39 balls. After Gill got stumped against Noor Ahmad, Sudharsan brought up his fifty off 33 balls.
He also got good support from Jos Buttler (39* off 30), as the duo added 97 runs for the second wicket off 60 balls. Sudharsan was dismissed with Gujarat just four runs away from a win, as Sundar and Buttler took the team over the line.

Player of the Match
Kagiso Rabada was adjudged Player of the Match for his terrific bowling performance as he broke the back of CSK's batting inside the powerplay. He registered figures of 3/25 in four overs and CSK couldn't really recover from his opening burst.
Turning Point
CSK were blown away in the powerplay as Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj destroyed the top order to leave them on 28/3 after six overs. The five-time champions couldn't really recover after that and brought up their team fifty in 12 overs, their second slowest ever.
What did the captains say:
Winning Captain, Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans):
Very happy with the win. It was a pretty good effort from us out there. I was a little bit confused whether to bowl first or bat first. We bowled well in the powerplay. Finishing the innings has been a concern for us and hopefully we improve. When Dube came in, we wondered if we should bowl one over of Washi. He (Suthar) bowled a decent last over. (On Sai) He's been batting brilliantly. Once he's set, he can give maximum rewards with minimum risks.
Losing Captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings):
Yes, to be honest, sometimes i hate to assess in that way, but I felt it was challenging. I was holding a bit for the pacers; the pace was inconsistent, and the bounce was up and down. But if we hadn't lost too many wickets, we could've reached 170-180. Not expected to be honest, it's tough to assess the conditions here. In the last three matches, we learned how the game would play out. We had a 60-70% chance in the last two three games, but we didn't expect it to play like this today. We just couldn't adapt to the conditions. In the first timeout, I told Flem that I was trying to be positive and aggressive. But at times, the ball popped out with inconsistent bounce. I told him I was trying to adapt, but it wasn't possible. You couldn't judge, and you couldn't expect it to turn out well. We were lethargic and didn't start well, but we needed to do better. I got off to a good start (10 off 6), I thought I would keep the momentum, but then we saw 3 wickets fall while we were trying to build a partnership. Another wicket fell and I wanted to take my time. For any other pitch I might've rotated the strike better. Once I got hit, I just thought I will take my chances and get some momentum back. We were batting really well, if we hadn't lost two quick wickets, Mukesh would've come in the second innings. But we lost two wickets quickly, which is why we opted for an impact player.
