Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during Match 66 of Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
It was the second time this season that CSK were fined for slow over rate, having earlier committed the offence against Delhi Capitals (DC) during Match 18 of the season at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Since it was their second offence, Gaikwad was fined INR 24 lakhs under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences.

Apart from that, the rest of the team members of the Playing XI, along with the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser. The punishment has added to CSK’s woes, who got knocked out of the tournament following a crushing 89-run defeat against GT.
CSK came into the fixture, desperately needing a win to keep their playoffs hopes alive. However, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side was completely outplayed in all three departments of the game.
CSK becomes 3rd team to get knocked out
Asked to bat first, GT posted a massive score of 229/4 in their allotted 20 overs, riding on half-centuries from Sai Sudharsan (84 off 53), Shubman Gill (64 off 37) and Jos Buttler (57* off 27). In reply, CSK were skittled for 140 in 13.4 overs as Mohammed Siraj (3/26), Rashid Khan (3/18, 2 overs) and Kagiso Rabada (3/32, 3.4 overs) scalped three wickets each.
As a result, CSK finished the league stage with six wins from 14 matches, having 12 points to their name and became the third team to get knocked out of the tournament.
