Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) blew away Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 39 of the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026), with a nine-wicket win on Monday, April 27, at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. After RCB captain Rajat Patidar opted to bowl first, his decision was vindicated by seamers Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/5, 3 overs).

The duo broke the back of DC’s batting in the powerplay and eventually bundled them out for 75 in 16.3 overs. In reply, RCB chased down the target without breaking a sweat in 6.3 overs, courtesy of contributions from Jacob Bethell (20 off 11), Virat Kohli (23* off 15) and Devdutt Padikkal. As a result, RCB completed the second-fastest chase in IPL history with 81 balls remaining in the innings.

Earlier in the day, DC got off to the worst possible start as 18-year-old Sahil Parakh lost his stumps against Bhuvneshwar Kumar to be dismissed for a two-ball duck on his IPL debut. To add to the misery, the last game’s centurion, KL Rahul (1 off 3), was surprised by a bouncer from Josh Hazlewood, who found his top edge, which was safely grabbed by Jitesh Sharma behind the stumps.

Things only got worse for DC as Nitish Rana (1 off 9), Sameer Rizvi (0 off 1), Tristan Stubbs (5 off 3) and Axar Patel (0 off 3) all fell prey to a swing bowling masterclass from Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar.

Courtesy of their performance, DC registered the worst powerplay score in IPL history, 13/6 in six overs. Some late contributions from Abhishek Porel (30 off 33), David Miller (19 off 18) and Kyle Jamieson (12 off 13), saved DC from the ignominious feat of the lowest ever IPL total as they got bundled out for 75.

Meanwhile, following their massive win, RCB maintained second spot on the IPL 2026 points table with ten points from seven games, while DC are on the seventh spot with six points from seven games as well.

Turning Point

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood ran through Delhi Capitals' batting line-up in the powerplay and left them reeling at 8/6 in 3.5 overs. The hosts couldn't really recover from the early burst and were eventually bundled out for 75 in 16.3 overs.

What did the captains say:

Winning Captain, Rajat Patidar (Royal Challengers Bengaluru):

Absolutely. Even I am surprised the way wicket played. All credit goes to the bowlers, Bhuvi and Hazlewood. They hit the right areas. The swing was normal but the good thing was we got early wickets and that kept us in the driving seat. The way Suyash bowled, stump to stump, it was really good to see. It is very important to follow your routines, we are taking it one game at a time. Different players are coming up and doing well. In T20 cricket, on flat pitches you need the bowling, because bowlers only can win you tournaments.

Losing Captain, Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals):

Even I don't know what happened. That's why they say you have to be on your toes in cricket. We have to move on from this match. From today's point of view you can say it did effect, but you can look back, if the catches were taken or had we taken the single against GT, then momentum would have been with us. The game is such that there is no room for ifs and buts. You have to be positive, you had a bad day and take the positives from the last 5-6 games. I wasn't surprised, they are world class bowlers, they swing it every ground, but if our openers or top order had played them out then the result might have been different.
