Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are still searching for their maiden victory of the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) as they take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 15 on Thursday, April 9 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Ajinkya Rahane-led side has had a tournament to forget, having lost their first two fixtures against Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

KKR finally managed to earn their first points, following a washout in their third fixture against Punjab Kings (PBKS). However, the dark clouds are again hovering over KKR’s upcoming game against LSG.

After a poor start to their campaign, KKR desperately need to earn full points in their next few matches, and washed-out games are going to affect them going ahead into the tournament. There are predictions of heavy rain a day ahead of the fixture, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange alert.

The city is set to witness long spells of rain, along with thunder, lightning and gusty winds.  On the other hand, a yellow alert has been issued for Thursday with thunder and lightning along with rain likely to affect the city again. Hence, KKR face the danger of having another washout on their home ground.

Despite the forecast, the weather is expected to clear up by the match starts, and fans will likely get a full-fledged game.

How will the rain affect match proceedings?

If the rain does come down at Eden Gardens during the match day, the delayed start will likely affect the tactics of both teams. The cut-off time by which the overs start reducing is 8:40 PM (IST).

On the other hand, the latest by which a five-over game can start is 11:14 PM (IST). Hence, KKR would be desperate to have a full-fledged game in the upcoming fixture as they hope to earn their first win of the season.
