Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had their second taste of victory in the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026), beating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a thrilling clash on Sunday, April 26 at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

After the two teams got tied on 155 in their allotted 20 overs, the fans were treated to the first super over of the season, where KKR eventually emerged victorious.

Earlier in the day, after being put in to bat first, Kolkata were rocked in the powerplay by Mohsin Khan and were reduced to 31/4 in 6.1 overs. To add to their misery, Angkrish Raghuvanshi was also given out for obstructing the field.

Cameron Green (34 off 21) and Rinku Singh tried to inject some momentum back into the innings with a 42-run stand off 28 balls.

The matters got worse for KKR, as Mohsin returned to break the stand and made Green edge to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, while George Linde (1/18) got rid of Ramandeep Singh to leave the visitors on 93/7 after 15 overs.

It took a herculean effort from Rinku Singh, who added 62 runs from 30 balls with Sunil Narine for the eighth wicket, to help KKR reach 155/7 in their 20 overs.

In reply, LSG lost Mitchell Marsh (2 off 3) cheaply, but captain Rishabh Pant (42 off 38) and Aiden Markram (31 off 27) added 57 runs for the second wicket off 55 balls. Cameron Green broke their stand with Makram’s dismissal, while Varun Chakravarthy (2/33), Sunil Narine (1/23) and Vaibhav Arora (2/24) triggered a collapse for LSG, leaving them on 93/5 in 15.2 overs.

Contributions from Ayush Badoni (24 off 19), Himmat Singh (19 off 10), George Linde (8 off 4) and a last-ball six from Mohammed Shami (11* off 6) helped LSG tie the score at the end of 20 overs.

As the action shifted to the super over, Sunil Narine dismissed Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram holed out to long on the third delivery. Asked to chase a target of just two runs, Rinku Singh hit the winning boundary on the very first ball to guide KKR to a thrilling victory.

Player of the Match

Rinku Singh was adjudged Player of the Match for his sensational batting performance, which helped KKR post a competitive score. He later took a total of five catches in the field, playing a pivotal role in his team's victory.

Turning Point

Sunil Narine turned the game in KKR's favour with his brilliant super over. He first dismissed Nicholas Pooran on the first delivery and later got Aiden Markram caught on the boundary, giving away just one run.

What did the captains say:

Winning Captain, Ajinkya Rahane (Kolkata Knight Riders):

Settled. Really happy with the victory. The way we played after the 16 overs, Rinku's innings was amazing. That last over and getting the momentum to our side was amazing. We played SMAT here and the soil was similarly, we thought 160-170 would be a good total. But the kind of bowling we did it was amazing. It was about having that belief, one wicket here and there and the opposition is back in the game, we were really confident about our spinners. We knew one wicket would change the game for us. No, not really. Sunil Narine was the option and hitting spinners to the long boundary was not easy. Tyagi has been really good, Vaibhav as well.. All these Indian guys are doing well. But let's not take credit away from Rinku Singh. You have to be in the moment, using the longer boundary is something we spoke about and guys have been practising. You have to be clear as a bowler.

Losing Captain, Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants):

(Your thoughts?) See, I think we definitely need a break. I think we're gonna refresh, there is always pressure and it's gonna be pressure game always, but at the same time, we have to look for answers inside, not outside. And just keep it simple. Just take accountability, each and every guy. Like, it can't be about one or two guys. It has to be about the whole unit and a lot of people will take accountability for that for sure. (Pooran is out of form, what was the thought process behind sending him) We had a discussion as a group we had a discussion and the name came up was Nicholas Pooran. He might not go through the best form of his life, but at the same time, you will trust your player in a hard situation like this. They're gonna come up nicely. So, no excuses there. Just looking at the positive, there might not be enough positive right now, but I think after the break, there will be a lot of enough positive for sure. (Thoughts behind bowling Digvesh Rathi?) See, there are always time in cricket where you can turn a little bit of bowling at the same time. But sometimes bowlers got to bowl those hard overs. And there will be time when I have to give him that in middle overs because I was looking for a wicket. I just didn't get one. That was the thought process behind it. And too many minds doesn't make it easy on the ground.
