Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ended their six-match losing streak in the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026), beating Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by nine runs on Thursday, May 7, at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. After being put in to bat first, Lucknow posted a humongous score of 209/3 in the rain-curtailed 19-over fixture as Mitchell Marsh scored a breathtaking century.
In reply, RCB were restricted to 203/6 in their 19 overs, chasing a DLS revised target of 213. Earlier in the day, Lucknow got off to a great start to their innings with openers Marsh and Arshin Kulkarni (17 off 24) adding 95 runs for the first wicket off 56 balls. While Marsh brought up his half-century off just 20 balls, his fastest in IPL, Kulkarni struggled to get going at the other end.

Following his dismissal, Marsh stitched another 70-run stand off 41 balls with Nicholas Pooran (38 off 23), completing his century off 49 balls. In the end, a quick cameo from captain Rishabh Pant (32* off 10) took LSG over the 200-run mark.
In reply, RCB lost their openers Jacob Bethell (4 off 5) and Virat Kohli (0 off 2), cheaply as they were reduced to 9/2 in 1.2 overs. After the early blow, captain Rajat Patidar (61 off 31) took it upon himself to bring his team back into the game, with a 95-run stand off 53 balls with Devdutt Padikkal (34 off 25) for the third wicket.
After the duo returned to the pavilion, contributions from Tim David (40 off 17), Krunal Pandya (28* off 16) and Romario Shepherd (23* off 15), kept RCB in the hunt. However, Digvesh Rathi successfully defended 19 runs in the last over to finally end LSG’s losing streak.
Meanwhile, following their win, LSG continued to languish at the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table, with three wins from ten matches, having six points to their name. On the other hand, RCB maintained third position with 12 points from ten games.

What did the captains say:
Winning Captain, Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants):
It was a good game for us for sure. For the whole team it means a lot. We have been trying lot of things. Coming to the same page means a lot for us. It's been a tough season but sometimes you have to go through the grind. Definitely we were trying to put together a perfect game where batting and bowling comes together. There has been some good luck and some bad luck but really happy to get a win. It was a tough call (to go with Rathi over Shahbaz). We were under pressure. But at the same time you've got to trust your bowler. Rathi was the right matchup for sure against Shepherd. He trusted himself and got the job done for the team. Unbelievable (Marsh innings). We know that as a team we've been grinding hard. Our strength this season has been bowling, the way all the bowlers have put their heart out, especially Prince, Shami bhai, Rathi, all the bowlers.. Avesh, Mayank. There has been some good things as a bowling unit, and looking forward to that.
Losing Captain, Rajat Patidar (Royal Challengers Bengaluru):
We were pretty sure how to go about the target. Boys played well and the way we stretched this game, just one or two shots behind. It was really good batting track. Was coming nicely on the bat. Difficult to analyse just after the game, need some time to analyse it. We have four games more, just taking one game at a time, one step at a time. Mitchell Marsh was beautiful, the way he played. And especially in the powerplay, he kept us under pressure. I was confused about the bowlers - who should I bowl to Mitchell Marsh just after the powerplay. But I think the way he played, I think that was a tremendous inning. The way we played, that was really good intent showed by all batsmen. Everyone is looking confident and in a great space of mind.
