Mumbai Indians (MI) bounced back to winning ways in the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026), beating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 6 wickets in Match 47 on Monday, May 4 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After being put in to bat first, Lucknow posted a good score of 228/5 in their allotted 20 overs, riding on a breathtaking half-century from Nicholas Pooran (63 off 21).
In reply, MI chased down the target comfortably in 18.4 overs as Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton (83 off 32), set up the run chase with their massive partnership. Courtesy of their performance, MI pulled off their highest successful chase in IPL history and handed LSG their sixth successive defeat of the season.

Earlier in the day, LSG started their innings with a new opening pair of Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis. It didn't take long for AM Ghazanfar (1/50) to get the first strike for MI, removing Inglis for 13 (5) in the third over. Nicholas Pooran walked in at number three and stitched a massive 94-run stand off 34 balls with Marsh for the second wicket.
The southpaw finally found some form after a forgettable outing against Kolkata Knight Riders, slamming a 16-ball half-century (his second fastest ever). Just when LSG were running away with the game, Corbin Bosch helped MI make a comeback, dismissing both Pooran and Marsh in the ninth over of the innings.
LSG were 141/3 at the halfway mark, their highest score after the first ten overs in IPL history. However, captain Rishabh Pant (15 off 10) and debutant Akshat Raghuwanshi (11 off 7) fell in quick succession, leaving their team on 160/5 in 12.1 overs. In the end, a 68-run stand off 47 balls between Aiden Markram (31* off 25) and Himmat Singh (40* off 31) took Lucknow’s score past 220.
In reply, MI got off to a sensational start with Rohit Sharma and Rickelton (83 off 32), adding 143 runs for the first wicket off just 65 balls. Following their dismissals, contributions from Suryakumar Yadav (12 off 7), Naman Dhir (23* off 12) and Will Jacks (10* off 4) took MI over the line in the penultimate over, as they ended their four-match losing streak at Wankhede Stadium.
Meanwhile, the fixture had no significant impact on the IPL 2026 points table as MI maintained ninth spot with six points from ten games, while LSG are still reeling at the last position with four points from nine games.

Player of the Match
Ryan Rickelton was adjudged Player of the Match for his breathtaking innings of 83 (32). He stitched a massive opening stand with Rohit Sharma to build a strong foundation for Mumbai’s record run chase.
Turning Point
LSG were well on course to post a humongous score with a well-set Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh at the crease. However, a double-wicket over from Corbin Bosch turned the game on its head, as he dismissed both set batters and put the brakes on LSG’s scoring rate. Following their dismissals, LSG could only score 73 runs from the last nine overs, falling way short of where they could’ve reached, which eventually became the point of difference between the two sides.
What did the captains say:
Winning Captain, Suryakumar Yadav (Mumbai Indians):
It was nothing new. We knew we could control the game with a couple of wickets. They were 120-odd for one. Everyone had their beliefs and had their plans. The way they bowled was commendable. Even we scored 244 few days back and SRH chased it down. So we knew it was chaseable. It was unbelievable batting. It's important to have a good start. They were always in control. At the way, Naman and everyone batted was nice.
Losing Captain, Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants):
(a few runs short?) "Definitely, the way we started, I think we should have gotten more runs. But definitely some good signs. Can't say that. Definitely the boys played freely, but in the end, I think they bowled well because they are used to these conditions, for sure. See, definitely, we were short 10-15 runs because it was a 220-230 wicket for sure. And the way we started, we had that edge over them. But at the same time, in a wicket like this, you can't blame bowlers all the time. They've been doing a fantastic job for us. So definitely can't say much to them, for sure. (what does the team need?) I think we need some good luck, man. That's the only thing I'm going to say. (how to find the luck?) Yeah, I think a lot of blessing is going to work around it. And it's going to take some more effort from us, for sure."
