Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah made his Indian Premier League (IPL) captaincy debut during Match 58 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Thursday, May 14 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala. Bumrah replaced Suryakumar Yadav as the stand-in skipper, who missed the game due to personal reasons.

On the other hand, MI’s full-time captain Hardik Pandya is still recovering from back spasms and hence wasn’t available for the fixture. Bumrah became the tenth captain to lead Mumbai Indians as they also made two changes to their playing side after opting to bowl first, with Suryakumar missing out and AM Ghazanfar also being benched for the game.

“(On captaining MI) Yeah, it feels good. I came here as a 19-year-old. I didn't think that I'll be a Test captain before I'll captain Mumbai Indians. But this is a fun place to be. You look after everyone and you want to contribute in whatever way possible. So, I like responsibility. This is a new challenge. I'll look to have fun. We've got two changes. Surya (SKY) is not here due to personal reasons and Allah (Ghazanfar) is out as well,” said Bumrah at the toss.

MI brought in Sherfane Rutherford and Shardul Thakur for the fixture as they look to end the season on a high. Meanwhile, PBKS also made three changes to their playing team with Harpreet Brar, Xavier Bartlett and Azmatullah Omarzai coming in.
