Royal Challengers Bengaluru are all set to kick off the IPL 2026 as they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening fixture on Saturday, March 28 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The Rajat Patidar-led side has a massive task of defending their crown in the upcoming season, having finally ended their 18-year-wait for an IPL title in 2025.
With renewed energy and valuable additions to their squad, RCB will aim to become just the third IPL team to successfully defend their title as they kickstart their campaign. They will have Sunrisers Hyderabad up against them in the opening fixture, who will look to put the failures of 2025 behind them and start afresh in the tournament.

With regular captain Pat Cummins unavailable for the first few fixtures, Ishan Kishan has been entrusted to take over the leadership duties of the team. Known for their belligerent batting display, SRH are expected to give a hard time to RCB bowlers on the batting paradise of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Ahead of the highly anticipated encounter, here are the venue statistics and key player battles to watch out for during the fixture:
Player battles to watch out for in RCB vs SRH
Virat Kohli vs Eshan Malinga
In the absence of captain Pat Cummins, Eshan Malinga will be expected to shoulder the responsibility of the pace attack. The right-arm speedster had a good previous season and will have the challenge of bowling to Virat Kohli, who again looked in sensational touch in the RCB nets.
Abhishek Sharma vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar
The SRH opener had a torrid time in the T20 World Cup 2026, where he failed to score consistently and got dismissed cheaply time and again. He will be up against RCB’s pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who’s known to trouble openers with his swing bowling with the new ball.
