Gujarat Titans (GT) stormed their way into the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) final, hammering Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets in Qualifier 2 on Friday, May 29 at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, New Chandigarh. After opting to bat first, Rajasthan posted a good score of 214/6 in their allotted 20 overs as the teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again went berserk, scoring 96 (47).

Apart from him, Ravindra Jadeja (45* off 35) and Donovan Ferreira (38* off 11) also made valuable contributions. For GT, Jason Holder and Kagiso Rabada (2/35) took two wickets each. In reply, Gujarat chased down the target in 18.4 overs with captain Shubman Gill leading from the front with a breathtaking century, while Sai Sudharsan (58 off 32) also scored a brilliant fifty.

It was also the highest successful run chase by GT in tournament's history as they qualified for their third IPL final, where they will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Ahmedabad, while Rajasthan were knocked out of the tournament.

Player of the Match

Shubman Gill was deservedly adjudged Player of the Match for his breathtaking century. He brought up his half-century off 30 deliveries and went on to complete his hundred off just 47 balls. He was eventually dismissed on 104 (53), having hit 15 fours and three sixes in his innings.

Turning Point

Rajasthan got a golden chance to end Gujarat’s famed opening partnership of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan in the fourth over, when Nandre Burger surprised the latter with a bouncer. Sudharsan top-edged him to deep square leg, where Donovan Ferreira failed to reach on time. The chance hurt RR massively as Gill and Sudharsan added 167 runs for the first wicket off 77 balls.

What did the captains say:

Winning Captain, Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans):

There was some confusion there but happy to get the win. We complement each other well, we understand each other very well and when we communicate we know what bowler to take down. I don't think I have seen anything, no one has seen anything like that in two matches in a row. It was all about I was in kind of in a zone, I was looking at the bolwers and see the ball, pick my spots to score the runs. That's what happens when you are batting well. We got a total, and once we got off to a start, I wanted to finish the game. We are very fortunate to have very good bowlers, Sai Kishore didn't even have a bowl today.

Losing Captain, Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals):

It was a par score; it was defendable. I felt after the heavy roller, it got better in the 2nd innings. In the first innings, the bowlers got some grip, and the slower ones did well. I thought 230 would have been a par score. A score around 240 would have been challenging, but we needed the openers early. It didn't happen, which became tough for us. (On the season) To sum it up in one sentence, there were many positives. We weren't supposed to qualify, given that many players were young and inexperienced, but many youngsters performed well and can only improve from here. (On Vaibhyav Sooryavamshi) I can't put it into words, there's one way where you slog and score many runs. But he doesn't slog, you could see his innings today - he calculates and plays his shots. I can't say how, but hopefully he will go on to do well in his career, do well for the Rajasthan Royals and win us a second title.
