Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Sai Sudharsan has confirmed that their captain Shubman Gill is fit to play their upcoming fixture of the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Wednesday, April 8 at Arun Jaitley. Gill missed GT’s last fixture against Rajasthan Royals (RR) due to the recurrence of a muscle spasm in his neck.

The opening batter has been dealing with spasms since the 2025-26 home Test season. During the fixture, he was seen sitting in the dugout with bandages around his shoulder and neck. However, Gill has recovered in time to be available for the upcoming fixture and is likely to replace Kumar Kushagra at the top of the order.

"Shubman is coming along well. He'll be playing tomorrow," said Sai Sudharsan in the pre-match press conference.

In Gill’s absence, Rashid Khan took over the captaincy duties of the team. However, it didn’t bring a change of fortunes for GT as they suffered their second successive loss of the season. After opting to bat first, Rajasthan posted a massive score of 210/6 in their allotted 20 overs, riding on half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal (55 off 36) and Dhruv Jurel (75 off 42).

Despite a brilliant start from Sai Sudharsan (73 of 44), GT lost their way in the run chase, being reduced to 161/7 in 14.5 overs. A lower order stand between Kagiso Rabada (23* off 16) and Rashid Khan (24 off 16) brought Gujarat on the cusp of a thrilling win.

GT eye first win of the season

However, a death bowling masterclass from Jofra Archer and Tushar Deshpande helped Rajasthan snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and guided them to a six-run victory.

Meanwhile, with the return of their captain, GT will hope for a fresh start and aim to win their first points of the season. On the other hand, DC will look to continue their winning momentum and complete a hat-trick of victories.
