Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have signed Sri Lanka fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka as a replacement for Brydon Carse for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026). Carse was retained ahead of the IPL 2026 auction for Rs 1 Crore and was expected to be a vital cog in SRH’s bowling attack, in Pat Cummins’ absence.
However, he was hit on his hands during a net session ahead of SRH’s opening game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The England fast bowler has failed to recover from his injury in due time, forcing SRH to sign Dilshan Madushanka as his replacement.

Madushanka has been signed for Rs 75 Lakh and has an experience of playing 1 Test, 28 ODIs and 19 T20Is in his international career, taking 70 wickets in total. The left-arm seamer was previously bought by MI at the IPL 2024 auction for Rs 4.6 crore, but he had to withdraw from the league due to injury concerns.
Meanwhile, SRH are already sweating over the fitness issues of their captain Pat Cummins, who’s flown back to Australia for back scans. According to Cricbuzz, Cummins is set to undergo a fitness test and will be granted NOC (No Objection Certificate) by Cricket Australia (CA), upon clearing it.
SRH unearth new bowling talent
In his absence, SRH’s bowling attack has struggled as they’ve won just two out of the five matches so far in the season. However, things turned drastically for SRH in their last fixture against Rajasthan Royals (RR) as the debutant duo of Saqib Hussain and Praful Hinge made headlines for their remarkable performances.
Both Hussain (4/24) and Hinge (4/34) scalped four wickets each, helping SRH bundle out Rajasthan for 159 and set up a massive 57-run win for their side. With the addition of Madushanka and the possible return of Cummins, SRH would hope to turn their season around after a sluggish start.
