Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by ten runs in Match 27 of the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) on Saturday, April 18 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. After being put in to bat first, SRH posted a good score of 194/9 in their allotted 20 overs, riding on half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen (59 off 39).
In reply, CSK were restricted to 184/8 in their 20 overs as Eshan Malinga (3/29) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (2/31) starred with the ball.

Earlier, SRH once again got off to a flying start to the innings, with Abhishek Sharma coming out all guns blazing. Travis Head (23 off 20) was a bit cautious at the other end as the openers added 75 runs for the first wicket off just 35 deliveries.
After an explosive start from the hosts, Mukesh Choudhary (2/21) helped CSK claw their way back into the game, dismissing Head and Ishan Kishan (0 off 1) off successive deliveries in the sixth over. Abhishek also departed after slamming a 15-ball half-century, leaving SRH on 93/3 after 8 overs.
As wickets began to fall, Heinrich Klaasen held one end, stitching useful partnerships to keep the innings going. He brought up his third half-century of the season off 32 deliveries and was finally dismissed in the 18th over, being cleaned up by Anshul Kamboj, who delivered another memorable spell for CSK. Jamie Overton (3/37) also contributed with three wickets, to put a stranglehold on SRH’s batting.
As a result, they failed to finish on a high and were eventually restricted to 194/9 in their 20 overs.
However, he once again failed to convert it into a big score, as a bouncer from Eshan Malinga hit Gaikwad's glove and went straight to Salil Arora behind the stumps. Mhatre also found Heinrich Klaasen at mid off after struggling with hamstring issues, leaving CSK on 66/3 after 5.1 overs.
After two quick blows, Sarfaraz Khan (25 off 19) and Matthew Short (34 off 30) got involved in a 46-run stand off 33 balls to bring CSK in the driver’s seat. With the game slipping away, Eshan Malinga once again turned golden arm for his side and got Sarfaraz holed out at deep square leg.
Dewald Brevis’ also departed cheaply as his poor form continued and got dismissed for a four-ball duck. In the death overs, SRH continued to scalp wickets at crucial stages as CSK eventually fell 11 runs short of their target.
Following their win, SRH rose to fourth spot on the points table with three wins from six matches, having six points to their name. On the other hand, CSK maintained seventh spot with four points from six matches.

Player of the Match
Eshan Malinga was adjudged Player of the Match for registering figures of 3/29 in four overs. He first dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad and later made Sarfaraz Khan hit one straight to deep square leg to bring an end to an important partnership. He further got the prized scalp of Matthew Short in the 16th over to further pile the pressure on CSK.
Turning Point
CSK were well in control of the chase after 15 overs, needing 54 runs off 30 balls, having five wickets in hand with Matthew Short and Shivam Dube at the crease. However, Eshan removed Short in the 16th over, while Sakib Hussain got rid of Shivam Dube in the 17th over, which turned the game in SRH's favour.
What did the captains say:
Winning Captain, Ishan Kishan (Sunrisers Hyderabad):
Lovely when you have a bunch of young bowlers. They are coming up with their own plans and it was lovely to see them do their job. 100%. Abhishek got out pretty early, when we have scored 220-230, we have seen one batter going big. Actually looking at them in practice sessions, giving their best, day by day in practice. Give them the ball and let them do what they want to. (on the pitch) Very good batting surface and we were 30-40 short. We should've batted better. We are not looking at the points table. Taking it one game at a time.
Losing Captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings):
Looking at how their powerplay went, I was looking at a score around 220-230. To pull it back by 30 runs, I would have taken it any day under 200. It was just about 80 runs needed in 10 overs (with the bat). From there it was just about building a couple of partnerships. We scored just 4 runs in the next 2 overs after the 10-over mark. Chasing 12-13 at the death is going to be difficult. It's been three successive games that the bowling unit has been doing really well. Even the powerplay today I thought Abhishek played brilliantly. I think everyone did a good job (with the ball). He (Anshul Kamboj) is working really on his bowling, especially the death bowling. Very rarely you get bowlers who have clarity and tell the captain that I know what to do, this is what I am going to do.
